IT Careers Camp

Explore the vast and exciting possibilities for careers in technology first-hand, by visiting local companies and going through a "Mini-MBA" crash course

Explore what the possibilities in IT really are, all while earning your "Mini-MBA" and experiencing college life for a week.

IT exists in business to solve problems. The IT Careers Camp is not a computer camp, nor a programming camp, nor a STEM camp. This nationally acclaimed unique camp experience introduces students first-hand to how technology is applied to real-world business problems.

Further, the IT Careers Camp shows students how there is a career in technology for everybody. IT is much more than just programming. The IT Careers Camp introduces students to the possibilities for careers in all parts of technology, from programming to graphic design, and from IT project management to data science.

During the IT Careers Camp, students will stay overnight at a local university Monday to Saturday and experience college life at either the University of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky University, Miami University, or Xavier University. Through the week, students will have the opportunity to explore the campus, visit with professors, eat in campus dining halls, and more to get an authentic taste of college.

In the morning, students will visit local businesses such as Procter & Gamble, Kroger, Toyota, GE Aviation, or much more and have the opportunity to compete in business problem-solving challenges that will test students' ability to solve business problems leveraging technology solutions. For example, at P&G, students must present their ideas on how P&G could better leverage technology to more effectively market their products. At Kroger, campers have been asked how Kroger could waste less food by utilizing technology creatively. Further, students have the chance to speak with professionals and managers at these companies about their job, their company, and even potential internship opportunities.

In the evening, students work on their capstone project: the Technology Optimized Business Enterprise, or TOBE Competition. In this competition, each team will design their own business start-up plan: anything from an app to a store! Students receive guidance from their company visits and program staff, and present their projects on Saturday at the concluding banquet in front of a panel of celebrity judges.
